The highly anticipated live-action She-Ra series, currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios, is making notable strides, suggesting that a fresh take on the iconic story may be on the horizon.
The 2018 animated reboot She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix was the latest adaptation of the beloved Masters of the Universe franchise, earning praise for its engaging characters and modern spin on the original material. Now, Amazon aims to take the character to new heights with a live-action series. First announced in 2021, the project had seen little progress—until now.
In an exciting update, Variety reports that Amazon's live-action She-Ra series is officially moving forward, with acclaimed playwright Heidi Schreck joining as writer and executive producer. Schreck, best known for her Tony-nominated play What the Constitution Means to Me, has also worked on Billions, Nurse Jackie, and Amazon's I Love Dick. She teams up with Robin Sweet, an executive producer from Better Call Saul, along with DreamWorks Animation, the studio behind Netflix’s animated She-Ra. Additionally, director Nicole Kassell, known for her work on Watchmen and Westworld, will also serve as an executive producer. With such a powerhouse creative team, the live-action adaptation is shaping up to be a must-watch for both longtime fans and newcomers.

The new show will once again center on Adora, who must face her destiny as the protector of Etheria. According to the official description, the series is “an epic fantasy about an orphaned young woman who leads a revolution to save her planet from annihilation.”
